AFGHANISTAN: IN THE PURSUIT OF ELUSIVE PEACE

AFGHANISTAN: IN THE PURSUIT OF ELUSIVE PEACE

Afghanistan could be a story of the struggle, pain, and grit of Afghan people, an ordeal of Afghans to hunt ever eluding peace. This nation has become synonymous with war and anarchy. other than few brief periods of relative calm and stability, peace has largely eluded this land of Afghans for hundreds of years now. All of the nations owe peace to Afghanistan, not because we destabilized it because we as humans share this responsibility of providing safety and security to our fellow innocent humans. The falling of Afghan cities Kunduz, Herat lefts Kabul the sole stronghold for the Afghan government. Taliban's pace of advancement may leave more cities liable to chaos.

Humans never wished to be an element of conflicts and rivalries of other nations, but Afghans were dragged into the chaos. The battleground for others resulted in scars for Afghans. Wounds that are bleeding ever since foreign powers decided to flex their might on Afghan soil. Afghans are paying the price for the wars that were forced upon them, but the resolve of individuals has never been weak even after all these years of suffering. Afghans have demonstrated sheer will and courage within the face of adversaries; this makes it abundantly clear that the resolution of the Afghans is indomitable.

AFGHANISTAN PEACE DEAL

Once the Americans decided to go away, it had been clear the hardships were ahead, it absolutely was just a matter of few days when a surge in violence is going to be witnessed. Taliban made it clear that they weren't going to draw down on their violence, let alone stopping it. The Afghan peace deal has everything but peace. The deal gave legitimacy to barbarism and violence that's being inflicted on innocent lives. it's the Taliban who benefitted from the deal, not the Afghan people or the democratic structure that was nurtured through of these years. observing the pace of Taliban control spreading to any or all major cities and provinces makes it amply clear that all the advances made in human values and Afghan society are going to be lost in no time.

Deal termed as peace deal has shocked the Afghans and left them feeling betrayed because the legitimate government wasn't included within the talks. Deal’s terms and conditions were solely decided by the US in its own interest and specified by other regional nations. Terms were decided by not taking Afghan interest into consideration but as per the agenda of other nations.

The terms were that the Taliban won't allow safe havens to other terrorist organizations namely (Al-Qaida, ISIS), which successively will see the drop-down of the amount of the USA and NATO troops, coming right down to zero within 18 months. All the bases are dismantled and therefore the chances of lifting sanctions from the Taliban were also expressed from the US end. Finally, the Taliban will hold talks with the Afghan government, chances of which seem bleak considering this situation of ongoing onslaught within the entire nation.

AFGHANISTAN PEACE PROCESS

The terms and conditions that were set appear to be holding no water whatsoever. the method was doomed to fail right from the beginning since it didn't include the say of a national democratically elected government, all over again we will witness another instance of a choice being pushed down the throats of Afghans.

Ceasing violence was the supposed cornerstone of the deal which failed miserably. Nestled between the Hindu Kush mountains is that the capital city ‘Kabul’, which is not any exception to violence or gunfights. Before even deciding the dates for starting talks, Taliban has began to throw tantrums, it's asked the Afghan government to release 5000 of its fighters. The Afghan government refused to relinquish in to the blackmailing and asked the Taliban to cease violence. Matters has resulted in falling of Afghan provinces to Taliban one after another. an enormous refugee crisis is in making, already many are often seen crossing Afghan borders into the neighboring states.

IS IT REALLY THE GRAVEYARD OF EMPIRES?

Afghanistan features a history of never coming under the rule of one entity or command. it's always been ruled by the local warlords or has been invaded by neighboring powers. The treacherous terrain of the Hindu Kush Mountains and high passes has made it next to impossible for any nation or empire to carry on to the Afghan lands for long let alone commanding control over its entirety. the bulk of the land is mountainous and barren that leaves small pockets of land suitable for settlement and cities to grow. this could be understood by staring at the afghan map where we will see the gap between all the most important cities is huge, which cements the actual fact that each one of these grew independently with less to no contact with other cities in the slightest degree.

Though it's been infamous for being the graveyard of empires, it absolutely was always the empires that came crashing on the doors of Afghanistan, not the other way around. What Afghans did to resist of these invasions was an understandable reaction that might be expected from any group of indigenous people. starting from the British, who fought wars with Afghans, seized parts of it, and made them a protectorate. Afghans kept fighting back which resulted in 3 Anglo-Afghan wars and eventually in 1919 Afghanistan was recognized as a nation by the British people.

Then came the Soviets with their communist ideology which resulted in overthrowing of the rule of the Republic of Afghanistan hence ending the amount of relative calm. a replacement government with communist ideology ruled over Afghanistan till 1992. It fell together with the Soviet Union as both the Afghan government and therefore the Soviets were bled heavily by the Taliban fighters.

After the Soviets, Afghanistan descended into a civil war though it was the Taliban that ruled the nation with its hard-line policies. This was never recognized by most of the nations but few were the exception to it. But after the US landed in Afghanistan in search of the perpetrators of 9/11, Afghanistan was thrown in turmoil back again as the Taliban by then had been fighting for far too long and became efficient in guerilla warfare. With US and NATO support, a democratic government was established but sporadic violence was a common feature of everyday life in Afghanistan. Now since the US is out of the nation, the democratic government that it installed seems to be in shambles. The Afghan defense forces are bleeding heavily and the advances by the Taliban are being made at an astonishing pace. Innocent Afghans are again at the front of this violence, and the request from Afghans seems to be falling on the deaf ears.

All the surrounding nations’ claims to be helping Afghans and raise their voice to stop the violence but all their efforts are falling flat. If each nation truly wishes Afghanistan to be peaceful then it amazes Afghans and raises the question of who are the ones supplying arms and ammunition to the Taliban fighters?  How this war is sustainable for the group that has no dealing with other nations and has a locked border, Afghans don’t make their arms and hence it has to be imported from somewhere.

It is for the world and the nations who claim to be the champions of human rights globally, to look upon the situation of innocent lives in Afghanistan. All the great powers around the world have this moral responsibility on their shoulders to not only protect their citizens but their fellow humans also irrespective of their nationality. We as a species have the distinction of having cultured societies with moral values and basic rights, and yet we turn a blind eye when it comes to the suffering of other humans just because that directly doesn’t affect us or doesn’t serve our national interest. By the time this article is published already, 8 Afghan provincial capitals have fallen in just 6 days. It is a humanitarian crisis that requires urgent attention and serious reactionary actions from the world community.

If we failed to protect the innocent lives in Afghanistan, we as humans will have to live with this filthy blot on our character and existence. It is the time we listen to our conscience and take the right steps and prevent the falling of a nation in general and humanity in particular.

Will India be a push over for China?

T hinking of India China clashing in a full blown war may run shiver down the spine of at least 2.7 billion people, but repercussion of such a war will be devastating for the entire global economy. China and India, both the civilizational states have existed side by side for millenniums, but only recently things have started to flare up quite often. Point of contention for both the nations is 3488 km long LAC (Line Of Actual Control) that runs all the way from Ladakh region of India to Arunanchal Pradesh bordering Tibet region of China. It seems both nations are adamant on holding their view on the perception of LAC and what all places it transverse from. It doesn’t surprise anyone when one gets to know that this historic problem has a British history at play in the background. China believes that the agreement reached by the British Indi was not legit as it was done with Tibet, which was the part of China and had no jurisdiction on settling borders. India on the other hand state...

‘OUMUAMUA: A Messenger From A Distant World

‘OUMUAMUA: A Messenger From A Distant World A n object  was quietly hurtling through our  solar system charting its way out when it was detected inadvertently by a physicist/observer Robert Weryk in the year 2017.  This observer never had an idea that what he had discovered was  the first  interstellar object observed by mankind. The Pan-STARSS telescope at Haleakala Observatory in Hawaii was the piece of instrument that was used on the fateful day of 19 Oct 2019 when 'Oumuamua was discovered. Since the day of its discovery, 'Oumuamua has never  le down the  scientists and always surprised astronomers about its true nature.   Each observation deepens the mystery  around the 'Oumuamua making it more and more complex. No one was ever in doubt about the interstellar origin of 'Oumuamua considering its strong hyperbolic trajectory and superfast speed of 94,800Km/S in the interstellar space relative to our sun. it absolut...

The Red Dream: Nation Built On Million Skulls

M odern nations are fairly young on the world stage of geopolitics, in fact, the nation-state as an idea dates not far too back in recorded history. Small city-states, principalities, kingdoms, and few empires ruled the majority of humanity. One of these kingdoms was the middle kingdom. People inhabiting the lands in this kingdom had a notion of them being the center of the world. Most of the people may recognize this kingdom by its much more familiar name “China”. Officially known as the People’s Republic of China(PRC). China as a political entity in its current form came into existence back in 1949 when Mao Zedong claimed China as a communist nation from than Republic of China (ROC) led by Kuomintang. The defeats of ROC lead to two major outcomes, first was the creation of Taiwan and the second was communist China embarking on its journey to prosperity A price paid for prosperity Prosperity eluded China for far too long, largely due to the myopic vision of its leaders supplemented ...
